We caught up with Sam in his studio this week to find out more about him and his work.
1.What do you like about your work?
I get to sit around making pictures all day listening to music – what’s not to like!
2.Do you have a daily routine?
Only in so far as I arrive at the studio roughly the same time each day, drink tea at regular intervals and spend a lot of time glued to my computer. My day to day work as an illustrator means I’m rarely doing the same thing from one day to the next.
3.What does having a studio mean for you?
It creates a healthy distinction between work and home for starters. If I worked at home I would be endlessly tinkering with images and ignoring my family. It also stops me from getting cabin fever and allows me to spend my day with like minded people.
4.What do you like about working in NEH?
It's a hidden – and unique – gem I think. Behind it's unassuming facade there's a fantastic and varied mix of creative businesses and individuals.
5.What are you passionate about?
Aside from making pictures I'm passionate about music. Not in a performing sense – I don't have a musical bone in my body – but as a constant accompaniment to my day. I struggle to work in silence so there's always got be something playing.
6.What do you like about the open studios/ opening your studio/ meeting the public?
I exist in a bit of a vacuum – particularly on the print making side of things – so it's always nice to meet people who like the work and share my love of chickens and astronauts!
7.What’s your favourite place(s) in Brighton?
8. What do you like about living in Brighton?
There's always interesting stuff going on and it's small enough to get to it easily if you want to.
