Artist of the Week

John Moore

23 October 2018 / Artist Feature

We caught up with John in his studio this week to find out more about him and his work.

What do you like about your work?

I like my work because it enables me to explore all the things I love about the world, such as nature, colour and movement, and encapsulate them into expressive wearable objects.

Do you have a daily routine?

I have tried to create a routine for myself but in reality it just doesn’t happen. I like that each day is different.

What does having a studio mean for you?

Having my studio is massively important to me. It’s a space all of my own, in which I can do whatever I choose. It represents freedom.

What do you like about working in NEH?

I love the sense of community within NEH, especially because my work is quite solitary. It’s comforting that others are close by having a similar experience. It’s also great when you need to borrow tools!

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about making things that make a positive statement.

What do you like about the open studios/ opening your studio/ meeting the public?

I love Open Studios because it offers people a chance to purchase some really special Christmas gifts, direct from the makers themselves, and at more affordable prices. You can see where all the action takes place. As a maker it’s a really nice way to round up the year while spreading some Christmas cheer. It’s also a great excuse to properly clean the place ;)

What’s your favourite place(s) in Brighton?

Second to my studio, my favourite place in Brighton would have to be the beach because it’s never the same. I love the power or the stillness of the water and the expanse of open sky. If you’re lucky you get to watch the starlings dancing against a spectacular sunset.

8. What do you like about living in Brighton?

Firstly I love the people of Brighton, who tend to share a similar values and a sense of fun in the way we live our lives. It’s very special. I love being by the sea, the slower pace of life and I like being able to walk everywhere.

What we like.

Where jewellery and sculpture meet to form exquisite pieces of wearable art.
